A 16-year-old Russian boy drowned off a Sharjah beach in the Al Khan area while swimming with his friends on Monday afternoon, local media has reported.
A police official quoted in the reports said the youth was sucked by the high tide. Onlookers at the beach tried to rescue him, but were unable to do so.
Police immediately rushed to the scene after being informed and the dead body of the teenager was pulled out of the sea.
The body was transferred to Al Qasimi hospital.
Officials have warned beachgoers against going into the water when the weather is not conducive to swimming and to watch the tides
Parents want Dh10m compensation for son’s drowning in pool
The parents of a boy who drowned in an Abu Dhabi Hotel have demanded Dh10 million in compensation for the death of their only son.
According to a report in Gulf Today, the victim has just flown into Abu Dhabi, after graduating to take up a job opportunity at an oil company.
The company that booked him into a hotel and a week later, he drowned while swimming in the hotel pool.
The Court of Misdemeanours acquitted the hotel manager of manslaughter because he was out of the country at the time of the incident. The court has now referred the case to the concerned civil court, where the parents have filed a lawsuit.
